PALM SUNDAY DONKEYS Riverside's St David's Anglican Church celebrated Palm Sunday in a unique way - by having donkeys in the church. The reason being that Palm Sunday was the day when after 3 years of public ministry,Jesus,a donkey and flanked by his supporters entered Jerusalem. People came from everywhere to witness this event. They pathed the way before him by laying their cloaks and branches on the ground like a multi-coloured carpet. The next week saw Jesus being put to death by popular appeal, and later rise from the dead. Bonnie and Jake travelled from Hobart on Saturday with their owner,Gaylene and her 2 helpers. Gaylene's donkeys are available to attend churches around the state. The service was a Sharing and Learning Together service featuring the donkeys at 10-00 am and followed by free rides, tea and coffee.

LAMBS Did you know 4.5 million lambs are killed each year for their pelts - this is about the same rate as the fox. For every foetal pelt,2 animals must die - the mother and her lamb(s). Karakul is made from pelts of both foetal and newborn lambs. A pregnant ewe is usually slaughtered after she has produced 3 - 5 lambs.she is killed without stunning; instead, she is pinned to the slaughterhouse floor by workers, her throat slashed nd her head twisted off.The carcass is then hoisted for skinning. The uterus is torn open for retrieval of the foetus - the "broadtail" fur, whose luminous sheen resembles watered silk. There are gradations of pelt character, depending on the stage of development. For example, fur taken from a foetus 15 days before natural birth is smoother than that of a foetus taken five days before birth. Take action by clicking the lamb. http://www.hsus.org/specials/lamb.html Karakul fur is popular with the mainstream fashion industry, not just reserved for the avant garde designers, including CHRISTIAN DIOR,GUCCI,KARL LAGERFELD,RALPH LAUREN,YVES SAINT LAURENT.
