Hobart's history is reflected in it's parks and bushland areas. More than half the area of Hobart is "the bush" including the Queen's Domain,a 170 hectare reserve of rare, original native grassy woodland within walking distance of the cbd .

LAMBERT PARK SKYLINE RESERVE Sir Lambert Dobson's donation of land surrounding a wet gully on the lower slopes of Mt Nelson created Lambert Park, a rare pocket of wet forest in the heart of the prestige residential suburb of Sandy Bay. Native birds including swift parrots and the rare 40 spotted pardalote visit the area. Walk the circuit track from the Sandy Bay Road entrance, or walk higher onto Mt Nelson from the Churchill Avenue access point.

TRUGANINNI RESERVE The semaphore station on the summit of Mt Nelson once relayed messages via a chain of stations from Princes Park in Hobart to Port Arthur. Later, it was used to report shipping movements in the estuary, and today, the Signal station's fine panoramic view is popular . Spend a few minutes walking to the nearby Truganini memorial. Native orchids, wildflowers and bird life and scenic views are the features of this attractive reserve, ten minutes from the city.

KNOCKLOFTY RESERVE Used by early settlers as a source of firewood, quarry stone and for rough grazing land, Knocklofty has changed little, and its heathland and open woodland flora and fauna communities thrive in the rough, steep terrain.

WELLINGTON PARK Mt Wellington provides a quarter of Hobart's drinking water supply, and the original Mountain Park was first set aside to protect this precious resource
RIDGEWAY RESERVE Within the Ridgeway Reserve the Pipeline Track contours around the mountain,12 km to North West Bay ,River and Wellington Falls, passing historic locations where early city engineers accessed water supplies.

Key icons of Hobart's past are preserved in it's historic parks as well along the Hobart and New Town Rivulets. The Cascade Brewery the Womens Penitentiary and the historic headstones around the edges of St David's Park are other features. Visitors to the weekly Saturday Salamanca Place Market cannot help but appreciate the industrial heritage in this locality. Natural Sandstone buildings,original iron fences,statues are other reminders of earlier times throughout the Greater Hobart area.
