Brickendon - Longford 1828. established by William Archer. is another example of architecture from early European settlement of Tasmania.

The Midlands is rich in reminders of this time.

The "old" Highway from Launceston to Hobart has beeen renamed the Heritage Highway. Travellers are encouraged to
drive into the bypassed towns to explore their historical charms.

Brickendon Estate is one of Tasmania's oldest properties, settled by William Archer from a land grant in the 1820's and it still remains in the Archer family today. Many of the buildings of the original farm complex built by ticket-of-leave men remain - the little chapel is still used by the family today. Other buildings include the blacksmith shop, the cookhouse, the smokehouse, the Dutch barns and the old farm shed
and some of these will soon have working activities and businesses
typical of the era operating from these buildings.

The main homestead of Brickendon has magnificent National Estate gardens and individual self guided tours of the gardens and the historic farm village are available.
